How to opt out of Whitepages.com
- 1
Find your listing
Search your first and last name with your city and state on whitepages.com. Open the result that matches you and click View Details. Check the phone number and address to be sure it's yours.
- 2
Copy the listing's web address
Copy the full address from your browser's address bar. It ends in a short reference code, usually 11 characters, like whitepages.com/name/Example-A-Person/Seattle-WA/Abcd12345ef.
- 3
Paste it into the opt-out form
Open the opt-out form at whitepages.com/suppression-requests, paste the address into the field and press Next.
- 4
Confirm it's you and give a reason
Check the details on the confirmation page and click Remove Me. Pick any reason and click Next. Whitepages says the reason doesn't affect the request.
- 5
Verify by phone
Enter a phone number, review the agreement and press Call Now to Verify. A four-digit code appears on screen. Answer the call and enter the code when asked. The page then confirms that the removal is being processed.
Watch out for
- Each listing is a separate request. If you show up under an old address or another spelling of your name, remove each listing on its own.
- Verification is by phone only on the standard form. Whitepages says the number is used to verify the request and won't be resold or shown on its site.
- Whitepages can only remove its own listings. It says it can't hide records in databases it doesn't control, such as public records.
- Search engines can keep showing a cached copy of the old page for up to 30 days, according to Whitepages.
- Whitepages also runs 411.com and PeopleSearch.com, linked from its own footer. Search yourself on both.

These are run by the same company. Removing yourself from Whitepages.com doesn't remove you from them, so check each one.
Does it come back?
Whitepages doesn't publish a policy on listings coming back, and new public records can create a new listing. Search your name, phone number and address again every few months and after you move.
Your rights
Whitepages is on the California data broker registry, so California residents can use CCPA rights to opt out of sale or sharing and to delete. In its filing it reports 975 opt-out requests and 5,879 deletion requests, answered in 1 day on average.
California: CCPA. If you live in California, the CCPA lets you ask a business to delete the personal information it holds about you and to stop selling or sharing it. Businesses generally have 45 days to respond.
California: the Delete Act. Data brokers that hold information on Californians must register with the state. California residents can use DROP, the state's Delete Request and Opt-out Platform, to send one deletion request to every registered broker at once.
Other US states. Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Texas, Oregon and a growing list of other states give residents a similar right to delete. Vermont, Texas and Oregon also make data brokers register with the state. Where no state law applies, the broker's own opt-out above still works for most people.
