How to opt out of MATCHBOOK
- 1
Get your device ID
The Advertising ID is a random 32-character string of letters and numbers that the manufacturer puts on your device. Some apps also carry an Installation ID of the same length. Matchbook says it doesn't use Installation IDs for advertising.
- 2
Ask the app if you can't find it
Open the app's privacy support screen. If there isn't one, use the app's Request Support function and ask the publisher for the ID Matchbook Data uses, if any.
- 3
Decide what you're asking for
Opting out of collection, use and sale and requesting deletion are two separate requests. California residents can also ask Matchbook to limit use of sensitive personal information.
- 4
Send it
Use the form on the Your Privacy Choices page, call (855) 716-3196 toll-free, or email privacy@matchbookdata.com. Include an email address Matchbook can reply to.
Watch out for
- Without a device ID Matchbook can't process the request.
- A deletion request is separate from an opt-out request, so make both if you want both.
- Matchbook can keep some data where the law allows, for example to investigate security incidents or fraud.

Does it come back?
Matchbook hasn't published anything about data returning after an opt-out. Your advertising ID can be reset on your phone, and a new ID is a new identifier Matchbook hasn't seen, so repeat the request if you change it.
Your rights
Matchbook is on California's data broker registry. Its page says residents of several US states can opt out of sale and request deletion.
California: CCPA. If you live in California, the CCPA lets you ask a business to delete the personal information it holds about you and to stop selling or sharing it. Businesses generally have 45 days to respond.
California: the Delete Act. Data brokers that hold information on Californians must register with the state. California residents can use DROP, the state's Delete Request and Opt-out Platform, to send one deletion request to every registered broker at once.
Other US states. Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Texas, Oregon and a growing list of other states give residents a similar right to delete. Vermont, Texas and Oregon also make data brokers register with the state. Where no state law applies, the broker's own opt-out above still works for most people.

Frequently asked
What is a device advertising ID?
A random string of 32 letters and numbers that your phone's manufacturer assigns to the device. Matchbook uses it, or an app's installation ID, to find your data.
Does Matchbook collect my location?
Its page says the opt-out and deletion rights cover data that may reveal your mobile device's precise geographic location.
Can I just email Matchbook?
Yes, privacy@matchbookdata.com is listed on the page, and so is a toll-free number, (855) 716-3196. Either way you still need to give a device ID.
