How to opt out of Cause IQ
- 1
Open the CCPA page
Go to Cause IQ's CCPA page and find the contact details for privacy requests.
- 2
Write the request from your nonprofit address
Cause IQ has to verify who you are, so it asks for the email to come from your nonprofit email address. Include your name and the EIN of the nonprofit you work with, and say whether you want deletion, an opt-out of further collection, or both.
- 3
Wait for the response
Cause IQ says it completes requests within 45 days and doesn't charge for them. It can also stop collecting information about you for 12 months.
- 4
Use mail or phone if email doesn't suit you
The page also lists a mailing address and a phone number for requests.
Watch out for
- Cause IQ doesn't treat information from public government filings such as Form 990s as personal information, so details drawn from those filings stay.
- The request has to come from your nonprofit email, so people who have left the organization may need to use mail or phone instead.
- Information you gave for a newsletter or a user account counts as personal information and has its own deletion route.

Does it come back?
Cause IQ doesn't publish a relisting policy. Its opt-out covers 12 months of collection, so check your profile again after that.
Your rights
Cause IQ publishes its process under the California Consumer Privacy Act.
California: CCPA. If you live in California, the CCPA lets you ask a business to delete the personal information it holds about you and to stop selling or sharing it. Businesses generally have 45 days to respond.
California: the Delete Act. Data brokers that hold information on Californians must register with the state. California residents can use DROP, the state's Delete Request and Opt-out Platform, to send one deletion request to every registered broker at once.
Other US states. Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Texas, Oregon and a growing list of other states give residents a similar right to delete. Vermont, Texas and Oregon also make data brokers register with the state. Where no state law applies, the broker's own opt-out above still works for most people.
