How to opt out of USPhoneBook
- 1
Look yourself up first
Search your name or phone number on usphonebook.com and write down exactly how your name and city appear on your listing, plus the phone numbers shown. You'll want them for the removal form.
- 2
Open the removal page
Go to usphonebook.com/removal, enter your email address and name and complete the CAPTCHA. The page promises it won't use this information "for anything other than to process your request."
- 3
Wait for the email
USPhoneBook warns it "may take some time to arrive", so check spam if it's slow.
- 4
Click the link within 24 hours
In USPhoneBook's words: "If you wait more than 24 hours to click this link you will need to request a new one."
- 5
Fill in the record removal form
Use the details you wrote down from your listing, and submit it.
- 6
Search again a few days later
Check USPhoneBook and FastPeopleSearch to make sure the listing is gone.
Watch out for
- USPhoneBook says it denies opt-out requests when "we were unable to locate relevant records in our system", so match the form to your listing as closely as you can.
- Emailing doesn't work: in its Texas registry filing the company says "We do not accept privacy requests received via email."
- The emailed link expires after 24 hours, and then you have to request a new one.
- Cookie and tracking opt-outs don't carry across the sister sites and have to be set separately on each one.

Does it come back?
Yes, possibly. USPhoneBook's Do Not Sell page says it regularly receives new public records, "so even if you opt out, your publicly available information may appear in our data products again in the future," and recommends you "periodically refresh your opt-out request." Check your name every 3 months and repeat the opt-out when something reappears.
Your rights
USPhoneBook treats public records as outside state privacy laws and applies opt-outs to them "as a courtesy". Its own numbers show the opt-out isn't automatic: in 2024 it denied 207,021 of about 1.2 million requests.
California: CCPA. If you live in California, the CCPA lets you ask a business to delete the personal information it holds about you and to stop selling or sharing it. Businesses generally have 45 days to respond.
California: the Delete Act. Data brokers that hold information on Californians must register with the state. California residents can use DROP, the state's Delete Request and Opt-out Platform, to send one deletion request to every registered broker at once.
Other US states. Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Texas, Oregon and a growing list of other states give residents a similar right to delete. Vermont, Texas and Oregon also make data brokers register with the state. Where no state law applies, the broker's own opt-out above still works for most people.

Frequently asked
Is the USPhoneBook opt-out free?
The removal page only asks for your name and email before sending the form link. There's no fee mentioned at any step.
My removal link expired. What do I do?
Go back to usphonebook.com/removal and start again. Links are only good for 24 hours.
Does removing myself from USPhoneBook remove me from FastPeopleSearch?
The company says an opt-out on one of its sites applies to all ten, FastPeopleSearch included. Search both afterwards to make sure.
Why was my request denied?
USPhoneBook says denials happen when it can't find your record or decides you aren't covered by a state privacy law. Submit again with details that match your listing exactly.
