How to opt out of YouMail, Inc.
- 1
Open the request portal
Go to compliance.youmail.com/submit-request, titled "Personal Data Request".
- 2
Choose the request you want
Pick deletion if you want your data gone, rather than only a limit on its use.
- 3
Give the details it asks for
Expect to provide the name, phone number and email tied to the account or number, since YouMail has to match you to its records.
- 4
Save any reply
Keep the confirmation in case you need to follow up.
Watch out for
- The privacy policy says YouMail stores call metadata and, for voicemail, the contents and transcription of audio left on its service, so a deletion request touches more than a profile.
- If you use YouMail through your carrier's default voicemail, the policy treats that separately from the standalone app.

Your rights
California: CCPA. If you live in California, the CCPA lets you ask a business to delete the personal information it holds about you and to stop selling or sharing it. Businesses generally have 45 days to respond.
California: the Delete Act. Data brokers that hold information on Californians must register with the state. California residents can use DROP, the state's Delete Request and Opt-out Platform, to send one deletion request to every registered broker at once.
Other US states. Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Texas, Oregon and a growing list of other states give residents a similar right to delete. Vermont, Texas and Oregon also make data brokers register with the state. Where no state law applies, the broker's own opt-out above still works for most people.
Canada: PIPEDA. You can withdraw your consent to a company using your personal information and ask it to correct what it holds. If it doesn't respond, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

Frequently asked
Do I have to be a YouMail user to ask for deletion?
The portal is titled as a personal data request and the policy describes a reverse phone number lookup service, so non-users can have data too. Use the portal either way.
Does YouMail sell my information?
Its policy describes sharing with service providers and in a business sale. Read the policy for the current wording on sale.
Will deleting my data stop robocalls?
No. Robocalls come from the callers. Deletion only removes what YouMail holds on you.
