How to opt out of First Direct
- 1
Open the privacy portal
Go to compliance.firstdirectmarketing.com. First Direct's California filing names it as the place to exercise your privacy rights.
- 2
Choose what you want
Pick deletion, opt-out of sale or sharing, or a request to know what First Direct holds about you.
- 3
Send it by email instead if the portal won't work
Write to privacy@firstdirectmarketing.com with your full name and the address or email the lists would have on you, and say which of those three requests you're making.
- 4
Watch for a reply
Expect roughly 10 days, which is the average First Direct reported for deletion requests in 2024. Keep a copy of what you sent.
Watch out for
- First Direct also does business as National List Services and FirstDirect360, and runs nationallistcounts.com. Ask for the request to cover all of them.
- It sells list data to marketers, so a deletion at First Direct doesn't reach the companies that already bought your record.

Does it come back?
First Direct doesn't publish a relisting policy. Marketing lists get rebuilt from new sources, so check again in a few months.
Your rights
First Direct is registered as a data broker in California, so the CCPA gives California residents the right to delete, to opt out of sale or sharing, and to know what's held. In its 2024 report, it said it complied in whole with all 62,010 deletion requests it received.
California: CCPA. If you live in California, the CCPA lets you ask a business to delete the personal information it holds about you and to stop selling or sharing it. Businesses generally have 45 days to respond.
California: the Delete Act. Data brokers that hold information on Californians must register with the state. California residents can use DROP, the state's Delete Request and Opt-out Platform, to send one deletion request to every registered broker at once.
Other US states. Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Texas, Oregon and a growing list of other states give residents a similar right to delete. Vermont, Texas and Oregon also make data brokers register with the state. Where no state law applies, the broker's own opt-out above still works for most people.
