How to remove yourself from TargetSmart
TargetSmart is a political and voter data company. To opt out of the sale of your data, use its online privacy form at privacy.targetsmart.com or call 1-888-678-6880. TargetSmart says those are the only two ways: it doesn't accept email requests. Its California filing reports a 3 day response to opt-out and deletion requests in 2024.

How to opt out of TargetSmart
- 1
Open the TargetSmart privacy site
Go to privacy.targetsmart.com. TargetSmart lists it in its California filing as where consumers exercise their privacy rights.
- 2
Choose the request type
Pick the do-not-sell option to opt out of sale of your data, or a deletion request if you want records removed. Have your full name, current home address and current email address ready: TargetSmart says it can't process a request without them.
- 3
Submit and keep the confirmation
Send the request and save any confirmation. TargetSmart may mail you a letter explaining how to finish the request. Its Nevada notice says it aims to respond to a verifiable request within sixty days.
- 4
Call if you'd rather not use the form
The privacy phone line is 1-888-678-6880, and it asks for the same details. TargetSmart says email requests are not accepted for privacy rights, so don't rely on writing to privacy@targetsmart.com.
Watch out for
- TargetSmart's privacy policy says it doesn't sell data collected from visitors to its website, so the do-not-sell request is about the voter and consumer data it holds, not your browsing.
- Voter registration records are public in many states and stay in the state's own files whatever TargetSmart does.

Your rights
TargetSmart is registered as a data broker in California. Its filing reports 11 deletion requests and 14 opt-out-of-sale requests in 2024, all complied with, each answered in 3 days.
California: CCPA. If you live in California, the CCPA lets you ask a business to delete the personal information it holds about you and to stop selling or sharing it. Businesses generally have 45 days to respond.
California: the Delete Act. Data brokers that hold information on Californians must register with the state. California residents can use DROP, the state's Delete Request and Opt-out Platform, to send one deletion request to every registered broker at once.
Other US states. Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Texas, Oregon and a growing list of other states give residents a similar right to delete. Vermont, Texas and Oregon also make data brokers register with the state. Where no state law applies, the broker's own opt-out above still works for most people.
