How to remove yourself from Locate-Friend
Locate-Friend, which calls itself the Global Surname Directory, handles opt-outs one listing at a time. Each profile has its own opt-out page asking for an email address and a phone number with country code. After you confirm by email and SMS, the site says the address and phone number show as "Opted Out".

How to opt out of Locate-Friend
- 1
Find your listing
Search your name on Locate-Friend and open each profile that shows your details.
- 2
Open the listing's opt-out page
Every profile has its own page at /peoples/ plus a number, with /optout on the end.
- 3
Enter an email and a phone number
Use a valid email and a phone number with the country code. Both get a confirmation: one by email, one by SMS.
- 4
Confirm both
Once you've confirmed, the site says the address and phone number on that listing change to "Opted Out".
- 5
Repeat for other listings
A second profile means a second request.
Watch out for
- Each listing needs its own request. Several profiles mean several rounds of email and SMS codes.
- The site doesn't state how long it takes or whether the listing returns.
- The homepage says that if information tied to your name shouldn't be displayed, you can submit a privacy request through the removal tools in the directory.

Your rights
California: CCPA. If you live in California, the CCPA lets you ask a business to delete the personal information it holds about you and to stop selling or sharing it. Businesses generally have 45 days to respond.
California: the Delete Act. Data brokers that hold information on Californians must register with the state. California residents can use DROP, the state's Delete Request and Opt-out Platform, to send one deletion request to every registered broker at once.
Other US states. Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Texas, Oregon and a growing list of other states give residents a similar right to delete. Vermont, Texas and Oregon also make data brokers register with the state. Where no state law applies, the broker's own opt-out above still works for most people.
