How to opt out of Thomson Reuters
- 1
Open the Public Records Privacy Statement
Thomson Reuters publishes the Public Records Privacy Statement for CLEAR, Westlaw Public Records and related products. It links the request portal.
- 2
Choose a request type
Pick opt out of sale (if you're a California resident) or delete. The statement says you can submit either through the Data Subject Rights Portal or by phone at 1-866-633-7656.
- 3
Submit the request
Fill in the portal form, or call. For questions about a request, Thomson Reuters lists westlaw.privacypolicy@thomsonreuters.com and a mail address in Eagan, Minnesota, attention Personal Information Request.
- 4
Keep your confirmation
Save any reference or email you receive, so you can follow up if the record is still there later.
- 5
Search again later
After a few weeks, check whether you still appear in your own public-record lookups, and resubmit if you do.
Watch out for
- Deletion only covers the copy in Thomson Reuters' Public Records Products. The company says it can't delete your data from the original government or commercial source.
- If your name, address or identifiers change, or you use close variations, Thomson Reuters says you will likely reappear and need to resubmit.
- The sale opt-out right it describes is the California one. Thomson Reuters' statement doesn't set out a separate route for other states in the pages we cite.
