How to opt out of Cognism
- 1
Open the Privacy Centre
Go to cognism.com/data-opt-out. Cognism's privacy policy recommends the form for erasing your data from its platform.
- 2
Pick the request type
The form offers options including deleting your data, do not sell, editing your data and getting a copy. Choose delete to be removed.
- 3
Verify your email
Cognism sends a verification email after you submit. It only acts on requests that have been verified.
- 4
Or email the privacy team
You can write to privacy@cognism.com instead. Cognism says it may need some personal information from you to validate the request.
Watch out for
- Deleting your data is separate from marketing email. Use the unsubscribe link at the bottom of a Cognism marketing email for that.
- For a US opt-out of sale or sharing, Cognism says you must turn cookies off in its cookie preference center or enable Global Privacy Control, and also submit a request in the Privacy Centre.
- Cognism may decline a request if it can't verify your identity or can't find the information.

Does it come back?
Cognism doesn't publish a relisting policy. Check again after a few months and resubmit if you reappear.
Your rights
Cognism is on the California data broker registry. Its 2024 registry figures list a median of 9 days to respond to deletion requests.
United Kingdom: UK GDPR. You can ask any company to erase your personal data and to stop using it for direct marketing. It has one month to respond. If it doesn't, you can complain to the ICO.
European Union: GDPR. You have the right to have your personal data erased and to object to its use for direct marketing. Companies must respond within one month, and you can complain to your national data protection authority if they don't.
California: CCPA. If you live in California, the CCPA lets you ask a business to delete the personal information it holds about you and to stop selling or sharing it. Businesses generally have 45 days to respond.
California: the Delete Act. Data brokers that hold information on Californians must register with the state. California residents can use DROP, the state's Delete Request and Opt-out Platform, to send one deletion request to every registered broker at once.
Other US states. Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Texas, Oregon and a growing list of other states give residents a similar right to delete. Vermont, Texas and Oregon also make data brokers register with the state. Where no state law applies, the broker's own opt-out above still works for most people.
