How to opt out of Civis

  1. 1

    Open the supplemental privacy notice

Go to the Civis supplemental privacy notice. It links the Data Subject Request Form.

  2. 2

Submit the Data Subject Request Form

You can ask to access, correct or delete your data, or opt out of sales, sharing and targeted advertising.

  3. 3

Or call if you're in California

California consumers or their authorized representatives can call 877-788-5865.

  4. 4

    Answer the verification questions

Civis tries to verify you from the details you give and may ask for more. Authorized agents need proof of agency, such as a power of attorney.

Watch out for

  • Don't email your request. Civis says requests through other channels won't be processed, and the email on the notice is for questions.
  • The privacy policy doesn't cover data that Civis's business customers upload, so ask that customer for it.

Does it come back?

Civis doesn't publish a relisting policy. Check again after a few months.

Your rights

California: CCPA. If you live in California, the CCPA lets you ask a business to delete the personal information it holds about you and to stop selling or sharing it. Businesses generally have 45 days to respond.

California: the Delete Act. Data brokers that hold information on Californians must register with the state. California residents can use DROP, the state's Delete Request and Opt-out Platform, to send one deletion request to every registered broker at once.

Other US states. Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Texas, Oregon and a growing list of other states give residents a similar right to delete. Vermont, Texas and Oregon also make data brokers register with the state. Where no state law applies, the broker's own opt-out above still works for most people.
