How to opt out of Equilar, Inc.
- 1
Open Equilar's CCPA page
Go to equilar.com/ccpa. It offers California residents a form to opt out of sale, request access or ask for deletion.
- 2
Fill in the form for what you want
The page also covers opting out of inclusion in certain data products built from public or licensed sources.
- 3
Email the data protection officer
If the form doesn't fit, write to dataprotectionofficer@equilar.com. Equilar's policy names that address for questions about its data, including objecting to its use of diversity-related data.
Watch out for
- Most of an Equilar profile comes from public sources such as SEC filings, company and non-profit websites and IRS Form 990 data, so removing the profile doesn't remove the filings themselves.
- Equilar says it doesn't collect home addresses, home phone numbers, family information or Social Security numbers, so those aren't what you're removing.
- Equilar says it lets an executive correct inaccurate public data, which is the route when the problem is a wrong detail rather than the listing.

Does it come back?
Equilar doesn't publish a relisting policy. Its profiles are rebuilt from new public filings, so a removed executive can reappear when new filings come out.
Your rights
Equilar's policy has sections for California residents and for the GDPR, and says non-public data is only disclosed with the owner's consent.
California: CCPA. If you live in California, the CCPA lets you ask a business to delete the personal information it holds about you and to stop selling or sharing it. Businesses generally have 45 days to respond.
California: the Delete Act. Data brokers that hold information on Californians must register with the state. California residents can use DROP, the state's Delete Request and Opt-out Platform, to send one deletion request to every registered broker at once.
Other US states. Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Texas, Oregon and a growing list of other states give residents a similar right to delete. Vermont, Texas and Oregon also make data brokers register with the state. Where no state law applies, the broker's own opt-out above still works for most people.
