How to remove yourself from Instant Checkmate
Instant Checkmate runs a suppression tool, reached from its privacy center, that hides your background report from name searches. Its help center says to allow up to 48 hours. The tool covers PeopleConnect's other people-search sites too, and deleting an account is a separate process.

How to opt out of Instant Checkmate
- 1
Open the privacy center
Go to the Instant Checkmate privacy center and pick the option to suppress your public data.
- 2
Use the suppression tool
Instant Checkmate says its automated tool lets you suppress the background report that appears when someone searches your name. It runs through PeopleConnect's suppression site at suppression.peopleconnect.us.
- 3
Wait up to 48 hours
Be patient. The help center says to allow up to 48 hours for the change to take effect, after which your report shouldn't be accessible on Instant Checkmate.
- 4
Handle account data separately
Different request, different form. If you have an account, user data is a separate request. Instant Checkmate says deleting it won't stop other users from searching for your public data.
Watch out for
- Public data and user data are two different requests. Deleting your account data doesn't hide your public report.
- PeopleConnect's terms say the suppression tool covers TruthFinder, InstantCheckmate, Intelius and USSearch, plus other affiliated sites.
- Suppression hides the report. It doesn't touch the underlying records. Instant Checkmate's own help center notes that opting out of its site doesn't mean your information can't be found elsewhere.
- PeopleConnect's terms have an arbitration opt-out with a 30-day window from first use of the site or the suppression tool. That's separate. It isn't a removal request.

Does it come back?
Instant Checkmate doesn't say how suppressed reports behave over time. Check your name on the site every few months, and again after a move.
Your rights
Instant Checkmate is registered as a data broker in California. Its 2024 filing reports 152,823 requests to opt out of sale or sharing, all complied with, at a mean of 1 day to respond.
California: CCPA. If you live in California, the CCPA lets you ask a business to delete the personal information it holds about you and to stop selling or sharing it. Businesses generally have 45 days to respond.
California: the Delete Act. Data brokers that hold information on Californians must register with the state. California residents can use DROP, the state's Delete Request and Opt-out Platform, to send one deletion request to every registered broker at once.
Other US states. Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Texas, Oregon and a growing list of other states give residents a similar right to delete. Vermont, Texas and Oregon also make data brokers register with the state. Where no state law applies, the broker's own opt-out above still works for most people.
