Step by step

  1. 1

Export anything you want to keep

You lose access as soon as the request goes through. Save the texts you need first.

  2. 2

Port your number if you want to keep it

TextNow's privacy policy says to port your number before you close the account if you want to keep it.

  3. 3

Open the Data Rights Request Form

Start from the form linked in TextNow's help article, Deleting your TextNow Account and Data.

  4. 4

Choose Request Account and Data Deletion

Select Request Account and Data Deletion in the form.

  5. 5

    Select Delete My Account

Click Delete My Account to confirm the request.

Watch out for

  • You lose your texts and your TextNow number.
  • You can't make a new TextNow account with the same email address.
  • TextNow may keep some personal information after you close the account, for legal and security purposes listed in its privacy policy.
  • Cancelling a subscription and deleting the account are separate actions.

Other ways to do it

  1. 1

Cancel service or deactivate the SIM instead

If you only want to stop paying, use Cancel Your Subscription on the My Account page. For a TextNow SIM, select Deactivate TextNow SIM Card under My Account after you cancel any data plan.

  2. 2

    California residents

In the app, open Settings, then Legal and Privacy, to make a data deletion request under the CCPA.

What stays out there

Deleting your TextNow account ends that number and clears your account with TextNow. A number you've handed out for years can still sit in caller-ID databases and people-search listings, and those don't update because you closed the account.

It's worth searching your old TextNow number as well as your name. Serus finds where your details are listed and removes them. See how it works at serus.ai.

Frequently asked

Can you permanently delete a TextNow account?

What happens to my TextNow number if I delete the account?

You lose it. If you want to keep the number, port it before you delete.

Can I reuse my email after deleting TextNow?

No. TextNow says you can't create a new account with the same email address.

Is canceling TextNow the same as deleting my account?

No. Cancelling a subscription or deactivating a SIM stops service, while deletion closes the account and removes your data.
