How to opt out of USADATA
- 1
Send the opt-out request
Email privacy@usadata.com, or post a letter to USADATA, Inc., Attn: CCPA / Privacy, 875 3rd Ave, Ste 402 FL 4, New York, NY 10022. Ask to opt out of the sale of your personal information.
- 2
Expect a receipt, then a reply
USADATA says it confirms receipt within 10 business days and tries to respond within 45 calendar days. In some cases it needs up to 90 days and says so.
- 3
Go to the sources too
USADATA says it doesn't collect data from consumers directly. It passes your opt-out to the sources it buys from, and also points you to Acxiom's opt-out and Data Axle's do-not-sell page. Submitting there yourself removes the dependency on a relay.
Watch out for
- USADATA calls itself a service provider and says it can't act on requests to know or delete. If you send one, it tells you so, so ask for the opt-out only.
- An authorized agent can file for you if you've given them signed permission. USADATA may deny the request if it sees no proof of that permission.
Does it come back?
USADATA says it stops selling your data on behalf of a business that tells it you opted out. It doesn't describe what happens if its sources add you again.
Your rights
The CCPA notice applies to California residents. USADATA is registered as a data broker in California.
California: CCPA. If you live in California, the CCPA lets you ask a business to delete the personal information it holds about you and to stop selling or sharing it. Businesses generally have 45 days to respond.
California: the Delete Act. Data brokers that hold information on Californians must register with the state. California residents can use DROP, the state's Delete Request and Opt-out Platform, to send one deletion request to every registered broker at once.
Other US states. Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Texas, Oregon and a growing list of other states give residents a similar right to delete. Vermont, Texas and Oregon also make data brokers register with the state. Where no state law applies, the broker's own opt-out above still works for most people.
