How to opt out of Kids Live Safe

  1. 1

    Search for your record

Open the Kids Live Safe privacy requests page, search the database with the form there and select the record you want removed.

  2. 2

Confirm the request from your inbox

Kids Live Safe sends a verification email and says the request only continues once you validate it. The site describes this as clicking the link in the email and, elsewhere on the same page, as replying to it, so do whichever the message asks for. If nothing arrives within 15 minutes, check the address you typed for typos and look in filtered folders.

  3. 3

    Wait for the processed email

When the request is done, Kids Live Safe emails you to say so.

  4. 4

Check the site after a day

The site says the record leaves its search results the next time its database updates, usually within 24 hours. Search for yourself again after that, and clear your browser's cache and history first so you don't see an old copy. If the record is still there, Kids Live Safe asks you to call support on 1-800-301-5905.

  5. 5

    Look for the sister site

California's data broker registry lists quickpublicrecords.com as a second site under the same company, Scalable Commerce LLC, and it has its own privacy requests page. Search for yourself there as well.

Watch out for

  • The verification step is an identity check. If Kids Live Safe can't match the name and email you submit to a record, it sends a message saying so and deletes nothing.
  • Daniel's Law covered persons (current, former and retired judges, prosecutors and law enforcement, plus family members in the same household) can skip the automated route and contact Kids Live Safe for help.
  • Deletion happens "IF PRESENT" under the site's terms: the request removes your information only where the company has a matching record.

Sister sites

These are run by the same company. Removing yourself from Kids Live Safe doesn't remove you from them, so check each one.

Does it come back?

Kids Live Safe says records can come back. It refreshes its reports from public sources, and a data partner can send new details that differ enough from the removed record (different spellings, initials or addresses) that the company can't conclusively suppress them. If you see a new listing, repeat the request.

Your rights

Kids Live Safe is run by Scalable Commerce LLC, which appears in California's data broker registry. California residents can also send privacy requests to privacyinfo@kidslivesafe.com, the contact the registry lists.

California: CCPA. If you live in California, the CCPA lets you ask a business to delete the personal information it holds about you and to stop selling or sharing it. Businesses generally have 45 days to respond.

California: the Delete Act. Data brokers that hold information on Californians must register with the state. California residents can use DROP, the state's Delete Request and Opt-out Platform, to send one deletion request to every registered broker at once.

Other US states. Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Texas, Oregon and a growing list of other states give residents a similar right to delete. Vermont, Texas and Oregon also make data brokers register with the state. Where no state law applies, the broker's own opt-out above still works for most people.
