How to opt out of TruePeopleSearch
- 1
Start at the removal page
Open truepeoplesearch.com/removal rather than a Google result. The removal button is tied to a session that can expire, and this page is where the site tells you to start over.
- 2
Search for yourself
Use the name and city or state you think the site has, and try older addresses or a maiden name if the first search misses.
- 3
Open your record
Open the record that's yours to get to its detail page. Check the addresses and relatives so you don't remove a stranger with the same name.
- 4
Click remove this record
Scroll to the bottom of the detail page and click remove this record. If you don't see the button, you're either on the wrong page or your session expired, so go back to the removal page and start again.
- 5
Confirm by email
Check your inbox and click the link in the email to confirm. Nothing is removed until you do. If it hasn't arrived, look in spam before you request a new one.
- 6
Check again after 72 hours
Wait up to 72 hours, then search for yourself again.
Watch out for
- The remove this record button is tied to a session that can expire, so start from truepeoplesearch.com/removal rather than a Google result.
- If you show up more than once (under your current name and an old one, say), repeat the steps for each record. TruePeopleSearch doesn't say that one request clears duplicates.
- Email and mail are possible if the form won't work, but the contact page calls both routes "typically much slower" than the form.
- Your listing can still show in Google for a while after it's gone from the site.

Does it come back?
It can. TruePeopleSearch's own privacy notices say "even if you opt out, your publicly available information may appear in our data products again in the future", and an opt-out "will not remove the data from its original source". Searching yourself again every 2 to 3 months, and after a move or a name change, is a sensible habit.
Your rights
TruePeopleSearch says publicly available information isn't covered by state privacy laws and that it applies opt-outs to that data "as a courtesy", so use the removal form even if you also send a DROP request.
California: CCPA. If you live in California, the CCPA lets you ask a business to delete the personal information it holds about you and to stop selling or sharing it. Businesses generally have 45 days to respond.
California: the Delete Act. Data brokers that hold information on Californians must register with the state. California residents can use DROP, the state's Delete Request and Opt-out Platform, to send one deletion request to every registered broker at once.
Other US states. Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Texas, Oregon and a growing list of other states give residents a similar right to delete. Vermont, Texas and Oregon also make data brokers register with the state. Where no state law applies, the broker's own opt-out above still works for most people.

Frequently asked
Is TruePeopleSearch legal?
Yes. It compiles publicly available records and is registered as a data broker in California under Free Data Services, LLC.
Does TruePeopleSearch charge to remove my record?
No. The site describes its opt-out process as simple and free, and there's no account to create.
I removed my record. Why does Google still show it?
Google's index lags behind the site. TruePeopleSearch's FAQ says Google takes some time to refresh, so the result usually fades on its own once the page is gone.
Is TruePeopleSearch.net the same site?
Not officially. The California registry lists only TruePeopleSearch.com under Free Data Services, LLC, so treat any other domain as a separate site with its own opt-out.
Why didn't the "remove this record" button appear?
Your removal session probably expired, or you opened the record outside the removal flow. Start again from truepeoplesearch.com/removal.
