How to opt out of Claritas
- 1
Open Claritas's privacy page
Go to claritas.com/privacy-legal. It has the request form for offline marketing databases.
- 2
Submit the offline request with your address
Include your first and last name and your home address. Claritas reported 12,795 opt-out requests in 2024 that had no postal address and couldn't be processed.
- 3
Handle online data separately
Use the technology preferences link on the page, or turn on Global Privacy Control in your browser. Claritas says the opt-out applies per browser and per device, and to each email address you use, so repeat it wherever you browse.
- 4
Call for deletion if you prefer
Claritas lists 1-888-994-9312 for deletion requests.
Watch out for
- The online opt-out covers only the browser you set it in. Repeat it on every device.
- Marketing emails stop with the unsubscribe link in each message. You may still get service emails.
- Claritas is registered as a data broker in California and Oregon, and also in Texas and Vermont.
Does it come back?
Claritas doesn't publish a relisting policy. Browser opt-outs reset if you clear cookies, so repeat them.
Your rights
Claritas is a registered data broker in California, Oregon, Texas and Vermont, and describes deletion and opt-out rights in its privacy notice.
California: CCPA. If you live in California, the CCPA lets you ask a business to delete the personal information it holds about you and to stop selling or sharing it. Businesses generally have 45 days to respond.
California: the Delete Act. Data brokers that hold information on Californians must register with the state. California residents can use DROP, the state's Delete Request and Opt-out Platform, to send one deletion request to every registered broker at once.
Other US states. Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Texas, Oregon and a growing list of other states give residents a similar right to delete. Vermont, Texas and Oregon also make data brokers register with the state. Where no state law applies, the broker's own opt-out above still works for most people.
