How to opt out of PublicRecords.com

  1. 1

    Open the Intelius privacy center

Intelius, LLC's California filing lists publicrecords.com and sends privacy requests to the Intelius privacy center.

  2. 2

    Start a suppression

Choose Manage My Suppression Rules, or go to the Suppression Center.

  3. 3

    Verify your email and identity

Open the verification email, then confirm who you are with your name and date of birth. You must verify at least one email address or phone number.

Watch out for

  • Intelius's suppression center names TruthFinder, Instant Checkmate, Intelius and US Search plus unnamed affiliated sites, so confirm your listing is gone afterwards.
  • Suppression doesn't hide you as a relative in other people's reports. Intelius has a separate form for that.

What PublicRecords.com holds about you

  • Full name and aliases
  • Current address
  • Phone numbers
  • Relatives
  • Age and date of birth
  • Court and criminal records

What PublicRecords.com is known to collect, not a check of your listing.

Sister sites

These are run by the same company. Removing yourself from PublicRecords.com doesn't remove you from them, so check each one.

Does it come back?

Intelius doesn't publish a relisting policy and says it can't promise everything is removed. Search yourself every few months.

Your rights

California: CCPA. If you live in California, the CCPA lets you ask a business to delete the personal information it holds about you and to stop selling or sharing it. Businesses generally have 45 days to respond.

California: the Delete Act. Data brokers that hold information on Californians must register with the state. California residents can use DROP, the state's Delete Request and Opt-out Platform, to send one deletion request to every registered broker at once.

Other US states. Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Texas, Oregon and a growing list of other states give residents a similar right to delete. Vermont, Texas and Oregon also make data brokers register with the state. Where no state law applies, the broker's own opt-out above still works for most people.
