How to remove yourself from TransUnion Canada
TransUnion Canada is a credit bureau, not a people-search site. Its privacy policy offers review and correction of your file, with contacts by email at TUCPrivacy@transunion.com or phone on 1 800 663 9980. It doesn't describe a delete-on-request route.
On average, Serus sends about 184 removal requests per person, 89% of them to data brokers, so expect TransUnion Canada to be one of many.

How to opt out of TransUnion Canada
- 1
Pick your contact route
TransUnion's privacy policy gives an email address (TUCPrivacy@transunion.com), a toll-free line (1 800 663 9980) and a mailing address for the Privacy Officer in Burlington, Ontario.
- 2
Quebec residents use their own contact
The policy lists a Quebec Privacy Delegate at the same Burlington address, with toll-free lines 1 877 713 3393 or 1 800 663 9980.
- 3
Ask to see your file
Request a copy of your credit report so you can see exactly what's there: identifying details, credit history, public information and who has received a copy of your report.
- 4
Dispute what's wrong
If something is inaccurate, say which entry. TransUnion says it has procedures to verify the information and, if appropriate, correct it.
Watch out for
- TransUnion collects most of your file from credit grantors and other institutions, so the lender is where an error usually starts, and the policy puts the duty to get consent on them.
- The policy says your file can include your Social Insurance Number, previous names and addresses, and a list of who has received a copy of your credit report.
- TransUnion's credit monitoring products are run by TransUnion Interactive in the US, which has its own privacy policy, so a request to Trans Union of Canada doesn't cover them.

Does it come back?
TransUnion Canada doesn't publish a relisting policy. Lenders keep reporting to it, so your file keeps updating as you use credit.
Your rights
In Canada, the federal PIPEDA and provincial consumer reporting laws apply. TransUnion's policy says it was regulated by provincial consumer reporting legislation long before PIPEDA took effect in 2001.
Canada: PIPEDA. You can withdraw your consent to a company using your personal information and ask it to correct what it holds. If it doesn't respond, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada. Read the full guide.
