AtData says requests about a mobile device need the device's Advertising ID.

Watch out for

  • AtData's own page says opt-out rights depend on jurisdiction, so what you can request varies with where you live.
  • Opt-out of sale and deletion are different requests: AtData's 2024 registry report shows a median 1 day for opt-outs of sale and 38 days for deletion.
  • AtData reported 485 denied deletion requests out of 9,355 in 2024, so keep your confirmation.

Does it come back?

AtData doesn't publish a relisting policy. Marketing data is refreshed from new sources, so a new email address or device can create new records.

Your rights

AtData, LLC is registered as a data broker in California, which is where the registry figures above come from.

California: CCPA. If you live in California, the CCPA lets you ask a business to delete the personal information it holds about you and to stop selling or sharing it. Businesses generally have 45 days to respond.

California: the Delete Act. Data brokers that hold information on Californians must register with the state. California residents can use DROP, the state's Delete Request and Opt-out Platform, to send one deletion request to every registered broker at once.

Other US states. Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Texas, Oregon and a growing list of other states give residents a similar right to delete. Vermont, Texas and Oregon also make data brokers register with the state. Where no state law applies, the broker's own opt-out above still works for most people.

European Union: GDPR. You have the right to have your personal data erased and to object to its use for direct marketing. Companies must respond within one month, and you can complain to your national data protection authority if they don't.

United Kingdom: UK GDPR. You can ask any company to erase your personal data and to stop using it for direct marketing. It has one month to respond. If it doesn't, you can complain to the ICO.
