How to opt out of PeopleConnect, Inc.
- 1
Open the privacy center
Go to the privacy center that Instant Checkmate links from its help center, suppression.peopleconnect.us, and pick the option to suppress your public data.
- 2
Identify yourself
Instant Checkmate says the center needs identifying details such as your name and date of birth to find your records.
- 3
Wait for it to take effect
Instant Checkmate says removal can take up to 48 hours, after which your background report won't be accessible there.
- 4
Mail it if you prefer
Its contact page also lists a mail-in opt-out request as an alternative.
Watch out for
- Deleting your account data (the right to delete) closes your account and doesn't stop others from searching your public data.
- Suppressing a report doesn't stop your name appearing as a relative or associate in other people's reports, phone or email reports, or sex offender registries, per PeopleConnect's terms.
- Instant Checkmate says you can ask to keep your name out of others' relatives and associates lists, which needs identifying details.

Your rights
The registry filing is under Instant Checkmate LLC, DBA Instant Checkmate. US Search says California residents can use DROP, but that it doesn't cover publicly available information, so also file the suppression request.
California: CCPA. If you live in California, the CCPA lets you ask a business to delete the personal information it holds about you and to stop selling or sharing it. Businesses generally have 45 days to respond.
California: the Delete Act. Data brokers that hold information on Californians must register with the state. California residents can use DROP, the state's Delete Request and Opt-out Platform, to send one deletion request to every registered broker at once.
Other US states. Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Texas, Oregon and a growing list of other states give residents a similar right to delete. Vermont, Texas and Oregon also make data brokers register with the state. Where no state law applies, the broker's own opt-out above still works for most people.
