How to opt out of ThisNumber.com
- 1
Open the do-not-sell page
Go to thisnumber.com/do-not-sell. The "Remove a phone number" box is right at the top.
- 2
Enter the number
Use 10 digits for a US number. Numbers from other countries start with + and the country code.
- 3
Submit it
The page replies "Request received". It says the number has been opted out and will not appear in ThisNumber's search listings.
Watch out for
- Opting out only changes ThisNumber. The page says the data stays at its original source, so the number may still show up on other websites.
- ThisNumber's spam and robocall reports come from the FTC's Do Not Call complaint data, which the FTC publishes. That record stays.

Your rights
California: CCPA. If you live in California, the CCPA lets you ask a business to delete the personal information it holds about you and to stop selling or sharing it. Businesses generally have 45 days to respond.
California: the Delete Act. Data brokers that hold information on Californians must register with the state. California residents can use DROP, the state's Delete Request and Opt-out Platform, to send one deletion request to every registered broker at once.
Other US states. Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Texas, Oregon and a growing list of other states give residents a similar right to delete. Vermont, Texas and Oregon also make data brokers register with the state. Where no state law applies, the broker's own opt-out above still works for most people.

Frequently asked
Does ThisNumber show who owns a phone number?
No. The site says it shows the country, carrier and general region from public numbering plan data, plus spam reports on the exact number. Names, addresses, emails, birth dates and relatives aren't collected, it says.
Where do ThisNumber's spam reports come from?
From complaints about the exact number in the FTC's Do Not Call data, which the FTC publishes as a federal record. ThisNumber says a report isn't proof of wrongdoing, because scammers spoof real people's numbers.
What if my number keeps coming back on ThisNumber?
The opt-out page tells you to contact ThisNumber if a number keeps reappearing or the information about it is wrong.
