How to opt out of GroundTruth
- 1
Email requests@groundtruth.com
Ask plainly: delete the personal information I gave through your website, such as my email or phone number. GroundTruth says it replies within a reasonable timeframe. No number of days.
- 2
Opt out of interest-based advertising on each device
GroundTruth says it honors the industry choice tools: aboutads.info/choices in a browser, the AppChoices app on a phone. After you opt out it stops collecting data from that browser or device for interest-based ads. It also stops using data tied to that device from your other browsers.
- 3
Redo the opt-out when your device changes
Clear your cookies, switch browsers or reset your phone's advertising ID and the targeting can come back. The policy says so itself. Set a reminder.
Watch out for
- Opting out won't stop ads showing up, only make them less relevant, GroundTruth says. It may still collect data for analytics, reporting and frequency capping.
- The email route covers information you gave the website. The policy doesn't describe a separate deletion route for ad-platform data.
Does it come back?
GroundTruth says an opt-out is tied to the browser or device. Clear cookies or reset your advertising ID and you may need to renew it.
Your rights
GroundTruth is on the California data broker registry under the name xAd, Inc. dba GroundTruth, with 9 deletion requests received, all complied with in full.
California: CCPA. If you live in California, the CCPA lets you ask a business to delete the personal information it holds about you and to stop selling or sharing it. Businesses generally have 45 days to respond.
California: the Delete Act. Data brokers that hold information on Californians must register with the state. California residents can use DROP, the state's Delete Request and Opt-out Platform, to send one deletion request to every registered broker at once.
Other US states. Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Texas, Oregon and a growing list of other states give residents a similar right to delete. Vermont, Texas and Oregon also make data brokers register with the state. Where no state law applies, the broker's own opt-out above still works for most people.
