How to remove yourself from Experian UK
This is a marketing opt-out, not a credit one. You ask to join Experian's suppression file so its clients stop receiving your details for direct marketing. Seven days to be added, then your data drops out of the marketing database at the next monthly build.
On average, Serus sends about 184 removal requests per person, 89% of them to data brokers, so expect Experian UK to be one of many.

Experian UK doesn't say how long removal takes. Under California law, a business has 45 days to act on a deletion request (15 business days for an opt-out of sale).
How to opt out of Experian UK
- 1
Open Experian's opt-out page
Start at the opt-out options page and click through to the opt-out form. That is the quickest route.
- 2
Submit your details
Fill it in. Email works too (customerservices@uk.experian.com), or write to Experian's Customer Support Centre in Nottingham, NG80 7WF.
- 3
Give it time to take effect
Seven days, Experian says. Because it builds its marketing database monthly, your data is only fully removed at the next build, and some clients plan campaigns weeks ahead, so a few more letters can still arrive.
- 4
Cut the rest of the marketing separately
This opt-out covers Experian's own marketing services and nothing else. Experian points to the Mail Preference Service for post, the Telephone Preference Service for calls, and your local electoral registration office to leave the open electoral register.
Watch out for
- Experian keeps the minimum amount of your data on its suppression file so it can honour the opt-out. If you want that deleted too, you have to say so, and Experian warns that data could then return to marketing lists.
- Other organisations can still market to you, and you will still see ads online.
- Account holders keep getting Experian emails, as set in their account preferences.

Does it come back?
Experian says the suppression file exists so the opt-out holds when new data comes in. Delete the suppression record itself and nothing stops your details entering marketing data again.
Your rights
You can object to direct marketing under UK data protection law. Experian calls that right absolute. The right to erasure is not, and Experian's data protection officer (uk.dpo@experian.com) handles rights requests. Unhappy with the answer? Complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.
United Kingdom: UK GDPR. You can ask any company to erase your personal data and to stop using it for direct marketing. It has one month to respond. If it doesn't, you can complain to the ICO. Read the full guide.

Frequently asked
Does opting out remove me from Experian's credit file?
The opt-out pages cover marketing data only. They say nothing about credit data.
How long does an Experian opt-out take?
Experian says it adds you to its suppression file within 7 days and removes your data fully at its next monthly marketing database build.
Why am I still getting junk mail after opting out?
Other organisations send marketing too. Experian points to the Mail Preference Service and the Telephone Preference Service for those, and clients may have scheduled campaigns in advance.
