How to remove yourself from Inbound Insight

Email Inbound Insight your name and current address, plus any addresses from the last 5 years. It stops using its own database to help clients market to you, and says processing takes 30 to 60 days. It doesn't touch its clients' or partners' lists.

How to opt out of Inbound Insight

  1. 1

    Write the opt-out email

Send it to the privacy contact listed in section 7 of the Inbound Insight privacy policy. Put your first and last name and your current address in the message.

  2. 2

    Add your older addresses

List the other places you've lived in the past 5 years. Inbound Insight says this helps it match you even if it doesn't hold your current address yet.

  3. 3

    Or use the request form

The policy also links a data subject request opt-out form, and the California page offers an online form or an email with the subject line "California Privacy Rights Request".

  4. 4

Give it up to 60 days

Inbound Insight says it usually takes 30 to 60 days to work the opt-out through all of its databases. Keep your sent email in case you need to follow up.

Watch out for

  • The opt-out covers only Inbound Insight's own database. Its customers' lists and its partners' databases keep their copies, so mail and email from those sources can continue.
  • For California requests to know or delete, Inbound Insight's CCPA page says it acts as a service provider to some clients and can't act on those requests; it tells you so instead.

What Inbound Insight holds about you

Does it come back?

Inbound Insight doesn't publish a relisting policy. Its database is built from data suppliers, clients and partners, so new data can arrive later; send the email again if marketing from it returns.

Your rights

California: CCPA. If you live in California, the CCPA lets you ask a business to delete the personal information it holds about you and to stop selling or sharing it. Businesses generally have 45 days to respond.

California: the Delete Act. Data brokers that hold information on Californians must register with the state. California residents can use DROP, the state's Delete Request and Opt-out Platform, to send one deletion request to every registered broker at once.

Other US states. Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Texas, Oregon and a growing list of other states give residents a similar right to delete. Vermont, Texas and Oregon also make data brokers register with the state. Where no state law applies, the broker's own opt-out above still works for most people.
