How to opt out of SpyFly
- 1
Open the Privacy Requests page
Go to spyfly.com/help-center/privacy-requests and search the database for your name.
- 2
Select your record
Pick the record you want to opt out of. SpyFly then sends a verification email.
- 3
Confirm through the email
Click the link in the email. Another SpyFly page says you must reply to the email to validate the request and continue identity verification.
- 4
Look for the confirmation
A confirmation is emailed to the address you gave. Give it 15 minutes. If it doesn't arrive, check the address for typos and look in spam.
- 5
Wait, then check again
SpyFly advises waiting at least 24 hours before checking, and possibly clearing your browser cache. If the record is still visible, call 1-800-831-9235.
Watch out for
- Timing differs by page. The FAQ says a few business days; other pages say 24 hours.
- Records can reappear when data partners supply data that differs enough, such as different spellings or addresses. SpyFly says to repeat the removal when that happens.
- SpyFly says its own records are separate from public records, which can still appear in background searches.
- The registry lists publicrecordreports.com for the same operator, so check that site too.

Does it come back?
Yes, possibly. SpyFly says data partners can send new data about you that differs enough in spelling or address, and in that case you should repeat the removal process.
Your rights
Residents of the six states on SpyFly's state privacy rights page can file a deletion request; SpyFly says it responds within 30 days once your identity is verified. For 2024 it reported 16,055 deletion requests, 15,670 complied with in whole, mean response 3 days.
California: CCPA. If you live in California, the CCPA lets you ask a business to delete the personal information it holds about you and to stop selling or sharing it. Businesses generally have 45 days to respond.
California: the Delete Act. Data brokers that hold information on Californians must register with the state. California residents can use DROP, the state's Delete Request and Opt-out Platform, to send one deletion request to every registered broker at once.
Other US states. Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Texas, Oregon and a growing list of other states give residents a similar right to delete. Vermont, Texas and Oregon also make data brokers register with the state. Where no state law applies, the broker's own opt-out above still works for most people.
