How to opt out of Nielsen
- 1
Open Nielsen's opt-out page
Go to Nielsen's opt-out page, which lists options for limiting how Nielsen processes your personal information, depending on the service.
- 2
Pick the service that applies to you
Browser users: use the opt-out link on Nielsen's digital measurement privacy statement. Ad targeting through Nielsen Marketing Cloud has its own opt-in/opt-out page.
- 3
Set the opt-out in every browser you use
Nielsen says its opt-outs apply per browser and device. Repeat the opt-out in each one. Clearing cookies removes the opt-out cookie.
- 4
Switch off ad tracking in your apps and devices
Turn on Limit Ad Tracking (Android: Opt out of Ads Personalization) or use the app's own setting, on every device.
- 5
Leave the panel if you're a member
Panel members: contact us.support@digitalpanels.nielsen.com and fully uninstall the software, because Nielsen says leftover software keeps sending data. For the More Panel app, uninstall the app.
Watch out for
- Browser opt-outs are cookie-based, so clearing cookies clears the opt-out, and Nielsen says Safari may discard it automatically.
- Opting out doesn't erase past data.
- Nielsen records that an opt-out cookie was set, so it can count opt-outs in aggregate.
- Uninstalling panel software isn't enough unless all of it goes.

Does it come back?
Cookie-based opt-outs disappear when you clear cookies or use a new browser, so repeat them. Panel membership ends only when the software is fully removed.
Your rights
Nielsen's US panel notice lists rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, object and withdraw consent, depending on your country or state. Requests must be verified, and only you or an authorized agent can submit one.

Frequently asked
Does opting out delete what Nielsen already has?
No. Nielsen says the opt-out doesn't erase past data. It only stops further measurement, which is what most people want from it.
Who do I contact with a privacy question?
Nielsen's digital measurement privacy statement gives privacy.department@nielsen.com.
Why did my opt-out stop working?
Browser opt-outs use a cookie. Clearing cookies deletes it, and Nielsen says Safari may discard it automatically.
