How to opt out of PeopleSmart
- 1
Open the opt-out page
Go to peoplesmart.com/data-optout. No account is needed.
- 2
Search for your record
Search for your name and select the record you want removed.
- 3
Verify by email
PeopleSmart sends a verification email. Click the link in it.
- 4
Wait for the confirmation email
PeopleSmart says it then emails a confirmation that the record has been opted out and tells its data partners not to return it in future People Search results.
- 5
Check after a day, then repeat for other records
PeopleSmart says the change shows up when the server next refreshes, in most cases within 24 hours. Clear your browser history first, because your computer may show cached results. The online process removes one report at a time.
Watch out for
- To prevent fraud, the online process lets you remove one report at a time. For more, email privacy@peoplesmart.com.
- Opt-outs cover only the specific search service. Your name might still appear in other PeopleSmart search services.
- PeopleSmart says it can only remove records from its own site, and the information may appear on other websites.

Your rights
PeopleSmart's privacy policy lists rights to access, delete, correct and opt out of the sale or sharing of personal data. Requests can go by email, an online form or phone, and some state residents can appeal a denial.
California: CCPA. If you live in California, the CCPA lets you ask a business to delete the personal information it holds about you and to stop selling or sharing it. Businesses generally have 45 days to respond.
California: the Delete Act. Data brokers that hold information on Californians must register with the state. California residents can use DROP, the state's Delete Request and Opt-out Platform, to send one deletion request to every registered broker at once.
Other US states. Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Texas, Oregon and a growing list of other states give residents a similar right to delete. Vermont, Texas and Oregon also make data brokers register with the state. Where no state law applies, the broker's own opt-out above still works for most people.
