How to remove yourself from Unity

Also known as Unity Technologies

Unity isn't a people-search site. It's a game engine and ad network that registers as a data broker, and where you opt out depends on who you are: a game player, a developer or a website visitor. Players use the privacy settings inside the game or the privacy icon on a Unity ad.

How to opt out of Unity

  1. 1

Game player: open the privacy settings in the game

Look for the privacy information or account services screen in the game, or tap the privacy icon at the bottom left of a personalized Unity ad. Unity then moves you into a web flow where you set your choices. Where each game puts this differs, so ask the developer if you can't find it.

  2. 2

Game player: choose personalized ads off

Switching off personalized ads is how you opt out of the "sale" and "sharing" of your advertising ID. If you give an email address and verify it inside the ad, Unity says you can also get a link to order a data disclosure report.

  3. 3

    Developer: use your account

Log in and open the privacy settings page to get a disclosure of your data or change settings.

  4. 4

Website visitor: use the footer link

Click "Your Privacy Choices (Cookie Settings)" in the unity.com footer and pick your options.

  5. 5

Anything else: email the privacy team

Write to dpo@unity3d.com for other rights or questions.

Watch out for

  • If a game shows no opt-out option, Unity says the developer has switched on a more private mode or marked the game as directed to children under 13. Ads there use only context, such as the game being played.
  • Unity says it can't locate you from an emailed or mailed request alone, because it has little information to identify you as an individual. That's why the verification happens inside a game.
  • Developers can't delete billing and payment records, license verification, fraud prevention or security data.

Does it come back?

Unity doesn't publish a relisting policy. A privacy choice made in one game applies to the game you were playing at that moment, so repeat it in other games.

Your rights

Unity's page is written for California residents under the CCPA. It says it doesn't sell data for money, but its ad and analytics activity can count as a "sale" or "sharing" under that law.

Frequently asked

Does Unity sell my data?

Unity says it doesn't provide personal information in direct exchange for money. It does say that sharing your advertising ID with ad and publishing partners can count as a sale or sharing under the CCPA.

Why can't I find the opt-out in my game?

Unity says that means the developer has turned on privacy-protective controls or marked the game as directed to children under 13.

Who do I email about a Unity privacy request?

The privacy team at dpo@unity3d.com.
