How to opt out of PeopleByName
- 1
Find your listing
Search your name or phone number on peoplebyname.com and open your record. The Record ID sits in the top right corner of the listing. Write it down.
- 2
Open the removal page
Go to peoplebyname.com/remove.php. The form asks for your first name, last name, email address, the Record ID and a reason for removal.
- 3
Submit the request
Send the form. PeopleByName says it will email you when the record has been removed, and that requests are processed promptly.
- 4
Repeat for every listing
Each listing has its own Record ID and is removed individually, so submit one request per record, including any with a different spelling of your name.
- 5
Remove a phone number if needed
If your phone number appears in reverse lookup results, PeopleByName points to a separate page at peoplebyname.com/remove_number.php.
Watch out for
- Removal is per record: one Record ID, one request.
- PeopleByName says removing you from its directory does not remove the data from its original source, so you can still appear elsewhere.
- The site publishes no removal time. It says only that requests are processed promptly.

Does it come back?
PeopleByName doesn't publish a relisting policy. It says its directory is built from public sources, so check your name again every few months and submit a new request if a record returns.
Your rights
PeopleByName's privacy policy describes CCPA/CPRA rights (deletion and correction) for California residents and GDPR rights (erasure and objection), using its contact page. The policy says it does not sell personal information as the CCPA defines it.
California: CCPA. If you live in California, the CCPA lets you ask a business to delete the personal information it holds about you and to stop selling or sharing it. Businesses generally have 45 days to respond.
California: the Delete Act. Data brokers that hold information on Californians must register with the state. California residents can use DROP, the state's Delete Request and Opt-out Platform, to send one deletion request to every registered broker at once.
Other US states. Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Texas, Oregon and a growing list of other states give residents a similar right to delete. Vermont, Texas and Oregon also make data brokers register with the state. Where no state law applies, the broker's own opt-out above still works for most people.
