How to opt out of Alphonso
- 1
Open the consumer privacy page
Go to Alphonso's consumer privacy page. It has a Do Not Sell My Personal Information button and links for other requests.
- 2
Choose your request
The Do Not Sell link covers sale of your personal information. Alphonso's policy also lists rights to delete, correct and port data, and to appeal.
- 3
Expect a verification step
Alphonso says it verifies requests and needs your IP address to do so.
- 4
Turn off ACR on the TV
Alphonso says you can withdraw consent to data collection at any time by turning off ACR in your TV's settings menu.
Watch out for
- Alphonso says the sale opt-out is separate from opting out of data collection on your smart TV, which you do in the TV's settings.
- Alphonso says it can't offer some services if you ask it to stop collecting data.
- Alphonso's Privacy Center says third-party opt-out systems can't exercise your choice on your behalf.
Does it come back?
Alphonso doesn't publish a relisting policy. Viewing data is collected by the TV, so ACR settings matter after a factory reset or a new TV.
Your rights
California: CCPA. If you live in California, the CCPA lets you ask a business to delete the personal information it holds about you and to stop selling or sharing it. Businesses generally have 45 days to respond.
California: the Delete Act. Data brokers that hold information on Californians must register with the state. California residents can use DROP, the state's Delete Request and Opt-out Platform, to send one deletion request to every registered broker at once.
Other US states. Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Texas, Oregon and a growing list of other states give residents a similar right to delete. Vermont, Texas and Oregon also make data brokers register with the state. Where no state law applies, the broker's own opt-out above still works for most people.
