How to opt out of Spokeo
- 1
Find every listing
Search your name and state on spokeo.com. Also try maiden names, old addresses and your phone number: each one can have its own listing.
- 2
Copy the listing URL
Open the listing and copy the full address from your browser bar.
- 3
Submit it on the opt-out page
Go to spokeo.com/optout, paste the URL, enter your email address and submit.
- 4
Confirm by email
Click the link in the email Spokeo sends. The removal doesn't go through until you do.
- 5
Repeat and check
Do the same for every other listing URL, then search again after a few days to make sure they're gone.
Watch out for
- Spokeo needs a separate removal for each listing URL, and a reverse phone lookup page counts as its own listing.
- Skip the email confirmation and the listing stays up.
- Search results can show your old listing for a while after it's removed. Google's outdated content tool can speed that up.

Does it come back?
It can. Spokeo rebuilds profiles from new public records, such as a change of address, a property sale or a voter registration update. Search for yourself again every 3 months.
Your rights
In its registry filings Spokeo describes what it sells as "publicly available information", which California and Texas law exclude from "personal information", so it treats its opt-out as voluntary. Given that position, use its opt-out form even if you also send a DROP request.
California: CCPA. If you live in California, the CCPA lets you ask a business to delete the personal information it holds about you and to stop selling or sharing it. Businesses generally have 45 days to respond.
California: the Delete Act. Data brokers that hold information on Californians must register with the state. California residents can use DROP, the state's Delete Request and Opt-out Platform, to send one deletion request to every registered broker at once.
Other US states. Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Texas, Oregon and a growing list of other states give residents a similar right to delete. Vermont, Texas and Oregon also make data brokers register with the state. Where no state law applies, the broker's own opt-out above still works for most people.
