How to remove yourself from BackgroundCheckers.net
Open BackgroundCheckers' Remove My Information page, enter enough detail to find your record and submit it. Nothing is removed until you click the confirmation link the site emails you. A separate Your Privacy Choices option only stops sale or sharing and leaves the listing up.

- 2

- 3

Send the request for that record. The site emails you a confirmation link.

Watch out for
- The site has two privacy options. Your Privacy Choices stops it from selling or sharing your information and takes effect immediately, but it does not remove the listing. Remove My Information is the one that takes the record off.
- Removal can't recall copies a member already downloaded.
- To act for someone else you need that person's signed permission. Authorized agents can also submit requests by phone at (833) 714-0641.

Your rights
California: CCPA. If you live in California, the CCPA lets you ask a business to delete the personal information it holds about you and to stop selling or sharing it. Businesses generally have 45 days to respond.
California: the Delete Act. Data brokers that hold information on Californians must register with the state. California residents can use DROP, the state's Delete Request and Opt-out Platform, to send one deletion request to every registered broker at once.
Other US states. Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Texas, Oregon and a growing list of other states give residents a similar right to delete. Vermont, Texas and Oregon also make data brokers register with the state. Where no state law applies, the broker's own opt-out above still works for most people.
