How to delete your myID in Australia

Uninstalling the myID app doesn't delete your myID. To delete it so it can no longer be used, contact the myID support line. You can also remove a device under My devices in the app, and disconnect your Digital ID from myGov.

Step by step

  1. 1

Check the email address on your myID

The email address is tied to your Digital ID. Make sure it is current before you remove anything, because you'll need it to set up again later.

  2. 2

    Contact the myID support line

To delete your myID so it can no longer be used, myID's help page says to contact the support line. Use the contact details on myid.gov.au.

  3. 3

    Know what deletion does

myID's privacy policy says you withdraw your express consent by deleting your myID. You can then no longer use myID to reach participating online services.

  4. 4

Disconnect it from myGov if you use both

In myGov, go to your account settings and disconnect your Digital ID. You'll need your myGov sign-in details to get in afterwards.

Watch out for

  • Deleting or uninstalling the app does not delete your myID.
  • Some personal information may be kept after deletion under the Digital ID Act 2024 and the Archives Act 1983.
  • myGov is a separate account. Disconnecting your Digital ID from myGov doesn't delete the myID, and closing myGov is permanent.
  • Once you withdraw consent by deleting your myID, you can't use it to get into participating services.

Other ways to do it

  1. 1

    Remove one device only

In the myID app, delete a single device from My devices. Your ID strength must match the highest level you've previously reached to do this.

  2. 2

Delete the app from your phone

Uninstalling the app removes it from that phone. Your registered Digital ID and its entry under My devices stay in place.

What stays out there

Deleting your myID ends that Digital ID. The Australian government may keep some records for legal reasons, and nothing here touches data brokers or people-search sites. Your name, address and phone number can sit on those sites and in old search results regardless. Serus finds where your details are listed and removes them.

Frequently asked

Does uninstalling myID delete my account?

No. The registered Digital ID and your device entry stay after you remove the app.

How do I delete my myID completely?

Contact the myID support line and ask to delete it. The help page on myid.gov.au has the contact details.

Does deleting myID close my myGov account?

Will the government keep my information?

Some personal information may be kept under the Digital ID Act 2024 and the Archives Act 1983, according to the myID privacy policy.
