How to delete your Viber account
In Viber, tap More > Settings > Account > Deactivate account, enter your phone number, tap Deactivate account again, enter your PIN if asked and tap Deactivate. That permanently closes the account. Uninstalling the app does not.

Serus is a privacy company with paid tools to find and remove your personal data. This guide shows the free way to do it yourself.
Step by step
- 1
Cancel Viber Out plans first
Deactivating does not cancel a Viber Out plan. If you pay by credit card, cancel before you deactivate. If you subscribed through Google Play or the App Store, cancel there.
- 2
Open Viber on your phone
Use the phone that has your account.
- 3
Go to More > Settings > Account
Tap More, then Settings, then Account.
- 4
Tap Deactivate account
Tap Deactivate account, enter your phone number, then tap Deactivate account again.
- 5
Enter your PIN and confirm
If you have a PIN enabled, enter it. Tap Deactivate to confirm.
Watch out for
- Deactivating permanently closes the account on all devices, deletes your profile data from Rakuten Viber's servers and removes you from groups, communities and channels.
- Uninstalling is not deactivating. An account is only deactivated through uninstalling if you don't reinstall on your primary device within two weeks, and it may be deactivated after 12 months without logging in.
- Viber Out credit is removed on deactivation, but the plan is not cancelled.
- Viber Pay users must clear their Viber Pay balance before deactivating.
- Backups on Google Drive or iCloud are not deleted. On iPhone you can't restore the account later.

Other ways to do it
- 1
Deactivate other devices from your phone
In Viber, tap More > Settings > Account > Desktop and tablets, select the device, enter your PIN if asked and tap Deactivate.
What stays out there
Deactivating removes your Viber profile and contact list from Viber's servers. A Rakuten account linked to Viber stays active. Your number can still be in caller-ID apps, marketing lists and people-search sites.
Deleting an account stops new data at that one company. It doesn't touch copies that data brokers and people-search sites already hold, or old search results. Serus finds where your details are listed and removes them. See how Serus protects you.
Frequently asked
Is deactivating Viber the same as deleting?
Viber says deactivating permanently closes your account and deletes your profile data from its servers, so it is the deletion route.
Does uninstalling Viber delete my account?
No. Uninstalling removes the app from your phone only, and keeps your account unless you don't reinstall within two weeks.
Does deactivating cancel Viber Out?
No. Cancel the plan yourself, through Google Play, the App Store or Viber for card payments.
Does Viber delete my backups?
No. Backups saved to Google Drive or iCloud are not deleted.
