Step by step

  1. 1

    Open the board

Go to your profile and open the board you want to hide.

  2. 2

    Open the board's edit settings

On the web, use the three-dot menu and choose to edit the board. In the app, tap the ellipsis at the top right and choose Edit board or Edit info and settings.

  3. 3

Switch on Keep this board secret

Toggle Keep this board secret. Pinterest's older articles call these boards secret and newer ones call them private. It's the same setting.

  4. 4

    Save with Done

Select Done. Only you and any collaborators you invite can see the board now.

Watch out for

  • Collaborators you invite can see a secret board. Remove them if you want it to be only yours.
  • Turning the setting off makes the board public again.
  • A private board and a private profile are different settings. Hiding one board doesn't hide the rest of your profile.
  • Business accounts can't make their profile private until they switch to a personal account.

Other ways to do it

  1. 1

Make a new board private from the start

Use the plus icon in the left navigation bar, choose Board, name it and switch on Keep this board secret before you create it.

  2. 2

    Make your whole profile private

Pinterest has a separate setting to make your profile private or public. A private profile doesn't appear in search results on Pinterest or in search engines. Business accounts have to switch to a personal account first.

What stays out there

Making a board or profile private limits who can see it on Pinterest from now on. Anything that was public before can still sit in search engine caches, and people-search sites or data brokers that already matched your profile to your name keep what they collected.

If your profile showed your real name, city or photos, check where else those details appear. Serus finds where your details are listed and removes them. See how it works at serus.ai.
