Step by step

  1. 1

    Download your data first (optional)

Pinterest lets you request a download of your data. You need the web version of Pinterest to make the request.

  2. 2

    Clear any business balance

If you have outstanding bills on a business account, remove your payment information to clear them before you delete.

  3. 3

    Open Settings

Log in on the web and open Settings.

  4. 4

    Go to Account management

    Select Account management.

  5. 5

    Select Delete account

Select Delete account and follow the prompts. Pinterest may send a confirmation email to the address on the account.

  6. 6

Stay logged out for 7 days

Your public profile is deactivated right away and the account and personal data are deleted after 7 days. Logging back in during that time can reactivate the account.

Watch out for

  • Deactivating is not deleting. A deactivated account hides your profile and boards, but your email address and username stay tied to it.
  • Don't log in to check whether the account is gone. Logging in reactivates it.
  • If you're in California, you have to contact Pinterest before you can reactivate.
  • Closing a Shuffles account also deletes your Pinterest account.
  • For a child under 13, Pinterest asks you to email its privacy support team instead of using the in-app steps.

Other ways to do it

  1. 1

    On the mobile app

The path on mobile differs for personal and business accounts. Follow the prompts under your account settings, and confirm by email if Pinterest asks.

What stays out there

Deleting your Pinterest account removes your profile and boards from Pinterest. It doesn't reach copies elsewhere: search engines may keep cached pages for a while, and people-search sites or data brokers that already hold your name and details keep them.

Where your Pinterest profile used your real name or location, it's worth checking where else that combination is listed. Serus finds where your details are listed and removes them. See how it works at serus.ai.
