Step by step
- 1
Open Lyft's data privacy page
Go to the data privacy page on lyft.com/privacy/home. Lyft's help center says to start there to delete your Lyft account and data. Lyft recommends a desktop computer for the data download.
- 2
Log in to your Lyft account
Log in with the account you drive and ride with. Deleting a Lyft account applies to both your rider and your driver account, so there is no separate driver form.
- 3
Download your data first (optional)
Lyft offers a copy of your data, including your ride history. Download it now if you want it, because once the deletion is confirmed the data is gone.
- 4
Start the deletion
Choose Start in the Delete account section, pick a reason, and type DELETE to confirm.
- 5
Wait for Lyft's response
Lyft aims to respond within 45 days of receiving your request. The help center also says you can delete your Lyft account and data in the Lyft app.
Watch out for
- One request covers both accounts. Lyft says there is no way to delete only the driver side, and no way to request partial deletion.
- Deletion can't be undone once the request is completed. Download your data first.
- Lyft may keep some information, for example to resolve open insurance claims, and keeps transaction records for at least 7 years.
- Lyft can refuse a deletion request in some cases, such as an issue with your account related to trust, safety or fraud.
- A driver account that Lyft deactivated is a different process. Deactivation appeals go through the Lyft Driver app, not the deletion page.
What stays out there
Deleting your Lyft account stops Lyft from holding your profile going forward. It doesn't touch copies that already live elsewhere. Your name, phone number and home address may still be listed on data brokers and people-search sites, and some of those listings can point back to details you gave a ride-share company.
Serus finds where your details are listed and removes them, and keeps watching so they don't come back.
