Step by step
- 1
Delete the posts and comments you want gone
Reddit says deleting your account does not remove your posts or comments. If you want any of them gone, delete them before you delete the account.
- 2
Cancel Reddit Premium
If you're a Reddit Premium member, deleting your account won't cancel your subscription. Cancel it first.
- 3
Disconnect Google or Apple sign-in
If you created the account with a Google account or Apple ID, scroll to the Account authorization section of your account settings and click disconnect next to it. If you don't have a password yet, Reddit asks you to create one, and you need a password to delete the account.
- 4
Open Account Settings
Sign in on reddit.com in a browser, or open the iOS or Android app, and go to your account settings.
- 5
Go to Advanced and choose delete
In Account Settings, open the Advanced section and choose to delete your account.
- 6
Confirm
Enter the details Reddit asks for, confirm you understand deletion is permanent, and select Delete.
Watch out for
- Deletion is permanent. Reddit says the account can't be restored.
- Your username doesn't become available again. Reddit says it will be unusable.
- Posts and comments stay up unless you delete them yourself before closing the account.
- If deletion keeps failing, Reddit suggests checking your password, trying old.reddit.com, or using a private browser window.
What stays out there
Deleting your Reddit account stops Reddit from holding an active profile for you. It doesn't reach copies that other companies already have. Data brokers and people-search sites that collected your name, phone number or address, and old search results that point at your profile, stay where they are.
A public Reddit history can be copied elsewhere, for example into archives or into profiles on people-search sites that link usernames to real names. Deleting the account doesn't reach those copies. Serus finds where your details are listed and removes them, so the cleanup doesn't stop at one account.
