Move out your balance first. Then in the app tap the Me tab, the Settings gear, Account under Preferences, and Close Venmo Account. On a computer, use Close my Venmo account at the bottom of your account settings.

Empty your balance
You lose access to any money left in the account once it closes. Transfer it to a bank account or debit card, send it to another Venmo user, or return it to the sender.

Finish pending transactions
Pending payments have to complete first. Venmo's User Agreement says a pending transaction, an open dispute or an amount you owe Venmo can block closing.

Close any Venmo credit card
If you have a Venmo Credit Card, close it and pay it in full before you close the account.

Open settings in the app
On the Me tab, tap your picture or initials, then tap the Settings gear.

Tap Close Venmo Account
Under Preferences, select Account, then tap Close Venmo Account and follow the prompts.

Check your email
Venmo sends one final transaction history email to the address on file.
Watch out for
- Any money left in the account is out of reach after closing. Withdraw it first.
- Closing a personal profile also closes the business profile linked to it. You can close a business profile alone by contacting Venmo Support.
- Business profiles can't be reactivated once they're closed.
- The menu can differ by app version.

Closing your Venmo account stops new data at Venmo. Public payment notes, your name and your username may already be copied into people-search profiles and other databases, and closing doesn't touch those.
