Step by step
- 1
Download your data first
Deletion is permanent and Strava can't recover the account afterwards. Export anything you want to keep, such as activities, before you start.
- 2
Cancel any paid subscription
Strava states that cancelling a subscription doesn't delete your account, and deleting is a separate step. Cancel through the place you subscribed if you pay for it.
- 3
Transfer club ownership
If you run a club, hand ownership to someone else first. Strava says ownership isn't transferred automatically.
- 4
Open Settings on the website
Log in at Strava.com, hover over your profile photo and choose Settings, then open the My Account tab.
- 5
Start the deletion
Under the account deletion heading, select Get Started.
- 6
Confirm the download step
Tick the box saying you've downloaded your data or don't want to download it, then select Request Account Deletion.
- 7
Click the link in the confirmation email
Strava emails the address on your profile. Open it and click the Delete Your Account link to finish. If nothing arrives, check your spam folder.
Watch out for
- Deletion is permanent. Strava's support team can't bring the account back.
- Cancelling your subscription doesn't delete the account. Do both if you want to leave.
- Private Segments and Routes are removed with the account, but Strava says it keeps a perpetual license on public Segments and Routes you created.
- The confirmation email goes to the address on your profile. If you no longer control that inbox, update it or contact support first.
- Clubs you own don't pass to anyone automatically.
Other ways to do it
- 1
In the Strava app
The mobile app has the same option in its settings and help menus. The labels differ by app version, so look for Delete Your Account there.
- 2
If you can't log in
Contact Strava support. Strava says it then verifies that you own the account by hand.
What stays out there
Deleting your Strava account stops new activity data from being collected there. It doesn't remove copies held elsewhere. Routes that started or ended at your home, a name tied to your running pattern, or a profile photo can be picked up by people-search sites and old search results before you delete.
If you want to know where else your details are listed, Serus finds where your personal data is exposed and removes it. You can run a free scan.
