In the Threads app, go to Account, then Deactivate or delete profile, then Delete profile, and confirm. Your Instagram account stays. Everything on the profile is permanently deleted 30 days after your request, unless you log back in first.

Open Threads and sign in
Instagram's help page says you have to request deletion while logged in to the profile. Instagram can't delete it for you.

Go to Account
In the Threads app, open Account.

Choose Deactivate or delete profile
Tap Deactivate or delete profile.

Tap Delete profile
Tap Delete profile, then confirm. Deleting Threads doesn't delete your Instagram account.
Watch out for
- Deletion isn't instant. Your profile, content, likes and followers are permanently deleted 30 days after the request.
- You can cancel before the 30 days are up by logging back in.
- After you delete, you wait 90 days before you can sign up for Threads again with the same Instagram account.
- The link only runs one way. Deleting your Instagram account also removes Threads, but deleting Threads leaves Instagram alone.

Deleting a Threads profile stops new posts and activity on Threads. It doesn't touch copies of your posts that people-search sites and search results already captured, and your Instagram profile stays public unless you change that.
