How to turn off TikTok tracking and personalised ads
Open Settings and privacy > Ads. Turn off Personalized ads, limit how much advertising partner data shapes your ads, and use Manage ad topics to see less of what you choose. You can't opt out of ads entirely, and TikTok still uses what you do in the app.

Step by step
- 1
Open Settings and privacy
In the TikTok app, go to your profile, open the menu and tap Settings and privacy.
- 2
Go to Ads
Tap Ads. The labels in this area vary by region and app version.
- 3
Turn off Personalized ads
Switch off Personalized ads. TikTok says this controls whether your on-TikTok and off-TikTok activity data is used for personalised ads. You'll still see ads, and they may be less relevant.
- 4
Limit off-TikTok data
Use the separate control under Ads that limits how much advertising partner data shapes the ads you see.
- 5
Manage ad topics
Tap Manage ad topics and choose See less for topics you don't want. Changes can take up to 48 hours to show.
Watch out for
- TikTok says you can't opt out of seeing ads. These settings reduce personalisation, not the number of ads.
- You'll always see ads based on what you do on TikTok itself, even with personalised ads off.
- Some third-party guides use labels such as Targeted ads or Ads off TikTok. TikTok's own pages use the names above, so go by what your app shows.
- In the EEA, UK and Switzerland TikTok changed its personalised advertising settings, so the options you see there can differ.
Other ways to do it
- 1
Block tracking at the phone level
On an iPhone running iOS 14.5 or later, you can also stop apps tracking you across other companies' apps and websites in your iPhone's privacy settings.
What stays out there
These settings change how TikTok uses data to pick ads for you. They don't delete what TikTok has already collected, and they have no effect on other companies that track you or list your details.
Targeting data about you also travels through data brokers (companies that collect and sell personal info) that build profiles from your email, phone number and address. Serus finds where your details are listed and removes them. It doesn't change settings inside TikTok.
