Questions about email scams

How can you tell if an email is a scam?

Look at the sender's full address, not just the name: it should end in the company's real domain. Hover over links to see where they really go. Be wary of invoices or renewals you don't recognise that ask you to call a number, and of urgent warnings that your account will be closed.

How do scammers get your email address?

Mostly from data breaches, where leaked lists get shared and sold, and from data brokers and websites that publish contact details. If your email shows up in a breach, change that password everywhere you used it and expect more phishing.
